Wesleyan/Methodist Studies: Journals

The Arminian is a theological and historical magazine published by the Fundamental Wesleyan Society. Access to select issues of The Arminian and information on the society can also be found on its "Related Topics" page.

The Asbury Journal publishes scholarly essays and book reviews written from a Wesleyan perspective. The Journal's authors and audience reflect the global reality of the Christian church, the holistic nature of Wesleyan thought, and the importance of both theory and practice in addressing the current issues of the day. Authors include Wesleyan scholars, scholars of Wesleyanism/Methodism, and scholars writing on issues of theological and theological education importance.

By way of introduction, Didache: Faithful Teaching, is an interdisciplinary academic journal offered on-line that explores the intersections of Christian conviction, culture and education for the Church of the Nazarene and other international Wesleyan communities in higher education. The publication serves to foster a conversation among our diverse international communities of higher learning, each seeking to educate in various academic disciplines but all guided by Christian conviction shaped through a Wesleyan heritage.

Holiness is an international journal of Wesleyan theology, published by Wesley House, Cambridge. The journal is dedicated to resourcing and extending the learning of the global Wesleyan/Methodist family, with a particular emphasis on decolonising theological scholarship. Holiness is an open access theological publication, providing an online platform for established and emerging scholars and practitioners in the Wesleyan/Methodist tradition from around the world. The journal publishes peer-reviewed articles in the fields of practical, contextual, biblical, and systematic theology.

The Journal of Wesleyan Thought (previously Aldersgate Papers) is the official scholarly journal of the Australasian Centre for Wesleyan Research. It is an open-access peer reviewed journal which publishes the research of fellows, members and other related material.

Methodist History is the official historical journal of The United Methodist Church and is published by the General Commission on Archives and History of The United Methodist Church. Since 1962, the year of its inception, it has published articles, book reviews, pictures and illustrations, news and other information about the history of the Wesleyan and Methodist heritage. In 2022, Methodist History became an imprint of Penn State University Press.
The DTL has access to issues dating from 1962-2020. More recent issues are available on Scholarly Publishing Collective, to which the DTL does not currently have access.

An open access, peer-reviewed electronic journal which publishes scholarly articles in all areas and eras of Wesleyan and Methodist studies.

The journal of the Wesley Historical Society, which was founded in 1893 for the advancement of interest in the history of all branches of the Methodist Church.

Wesley and Methodist Studies publishes peer-reviewed articles that examine the life and work of John and Charles Wesley, their contemporaries (proponents or opponents) in the 18th century Evangelical Revival, their historical and theological antecedents, their successors in the Wesleyan tradition, and studies of the Wesleyan and Evangelical traditions today.
The DTL has full access to the journal but the publisher has set a 3-year moving wall embargo.
