The third best way for DTL to acquire content is through single title acquisitions.
We can buy individual titles via GOBI. When we buy these titles, we have permanent access and they become capital assets.
GOBI purchases go into the DTL alone.
We can buy individual titles via ProQuest. When we buy these titles, we have permanent access and they become capital assets.
ProQuest titles will be included in both the Original DTL and the DTL2 for the same price.
We will soon move most title level purchases from GOBI to ProQuest.
We can buy individual titles via Browns. When we buy these titles, we have permanent access and they become capital assets.
Browns titles will be included in the Original DTL, DTL2, and the GLDTL for the same price.
Brown has a limited selection, but we try to buy from Brown when possible.
We can buy or acquire individual titles, even titles which are not available digitally, via Amazon and other sources, including donations and used book sales. With CDL, we must to own one print copy of the title for each digital copy that we circulate. We also have to bear the cost of scanning and storing the print books.
We can place the CDL titles in any library—as long as we are not circulating more digital copies than the number of digital copies that we own. We currently place CDL titles in the original DTL and plan to place them in the DTL2, but not our other libraries.
CDL titles become capital assets.
